Student engagement is the degree of attention, curiosity, interest, and passion that students show when learning or being taught.

Research indicates that engaged students exhibit greater persistence and higher achievement than disengaged students. The annual engagement survey has 20 questions exploring students' perceptions about school and learning, and shows their engagement across behavioral, emotional, and cognitive domains.

Staff engagement and satisfaction surveys, developed by Idaho stakeholders, measure how much school employees believe their school provides them with appropriate resources and support while fostering a positive culture. Staff rate their agreement with such questions as 'Our school has adequate facilities to support student learning.' Idaho reports the percentage of these survey questions with which staff members agreed or strongly agreed.
